My Child is Already Born
My Child Is Already Born? Can I Still Consider Adoption?
Whether you have just delivered in the hospital or have been parenting your child for a while, if you are considering adoption, it’s never too late to explore this option. Adoption Center of Illinois is here for you. We can help educate you on the option of adoption, adoption laws and make sure you can make a well informed decision.
It’s Never Too Late To Consider Adoption
When considering placing an already born or older child for adoption, we recommend utilizing our agency-provided temporary care. This will give you the time and space you may need to learn if adoption is the right choice for you and your child and to create a plan.
- Transfer of Custody for Purpose of Temporary Care allows an agency to care for your child for a short period of time. This is not DCFS foster care. Our temporary care is voluntary. This can be revoked at any time if you decide you do not want to move forward with an adoption plan.
- Our agency has licensed foster families that volunteer to provide temporary care and do not get paid for providing this service. The family can provide a loving, one on one home environment for your child while you explore this option. The family can provide updates, photos and visits during this time. Read about one of our families.
- Temporary care can be for a couple of days or up to several weeks. Your counselor will be there for you to check in and support you as best we can during this time.
- You will also utilize this time to create your adoption plan. You decide on when/if you’re ready to take the next steps in your adoption plan or to parent your child.
