Attachment and Adoption – LIVE ZOOM CLASS

July 9 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Recent research in neuroscience has confirmed what many clinicians have long known: Early relationships between caregivers and infants/young children matter and have lifelong implications for children. In order to help each child reach their potential, supportive and caring relationships are essential. This lecture will address the process of creating lasting attachments with adoptive children, some challenges to the process, and guidance and tips to overcome difficulties. Elizabeth Stoltenberg, licensed clinical social worker, will address unique attachment issues for adoptive families including families that adopt toddlers and older children with difficult early experiences. Elizabeth has provided clinical services to children and their families in both outpatient and inpatient settings since 2016 with a focus on treatment for issues such child and family trauma, challenging behaviors, anxiety, and childhood depression. She currently sees children, families, and adult individuals in private practice. Elizabeth holds a master’s degree in child development and has specialized training in early childhood brain development, play therapy, attachment, and DIR/Floor time. This lecture is appropriate for prospective adoptive parents and adoptive parents seeking developmental guidance and insight into nurturing positive and growth-promoting relationships with their children.
