DESCRIPTION:We are always looking for ways to support you! \nACI is proud to announce a new online community called Adoption Community Connection! Designed to build a safe space for adoptive families and waiting families to create connections with other families\, find and share resources\, and most importantly\, to know you are not alone. Shared through a Google Drive\, members will find various databases they can search through and add to. DESCRIPTION:Adult Adoptee Panel Discussion: Adoptees Share Their Experiences  \nWhat does adoption look like through the lens of someone who was adopted?  How does someone who was adopted suggest talking to children about adoption?  This class is conducted with a panel of adults who were adopted as children.  The panelists discuss their lives\, the history of their memories about adoption; when they were told\, how they were told\, and what they thought and felt about being adopted.  Usually\, the panel consists of individuals who were adopted domestically (and from time to time we will have a panelist who was adopted overseas).  The moderator\, Jeremy Hays\, will pose specific questions and assist in bringing to the fore salient aspects of the panelist’s experience.  This session is most appropriate for potential adoptive parents and adoptive parents of infants and young children. \nOur moderator\, Jeremy Hays has volunteered with ACI for 5yrs. Mr. Hays identifies as biracial adult adoptee that grew up in a transracial household. He is also a member of the LBGTQ+ community. His personal experience and knowledge ranges from being an adopted child to reuniting with his biological family and becoming an adoptive father himself. SUMMARY:Prenatal Drug and Alcohol Exposure: What Prospective Parents Need to Know - LIVE WEBINAR
DESCRIPTION:Some children who are placed for adoption were prenatally exposed to drugs and/or alcohol. While this may alarm prospective parents\, increased awareness can be helpful. This class will teach prospective parents about the effects of prenatal drug and alcohol exposure\, explore what related symptoms can look like over time\, and outline available services for children and families who need them. This can help prospective parents make decisions\, gain a frame of reference for potential concerns\, and ultimately maximize their child’s potential.
